I finally got to check off the Grand Canyon on my bucket list. I was able to squeeze it on for only one day because I had to be in Las Vegas the following day. I flew into the airport in Phoenix and took a 3-hour car ride to get to Grand Canyon Park. The ride was incredibly boring and cell phone reception was spotty but overall that lead to the opportunity to look out the window and see some beautiful scenery.
When we finally arrived, we got a hotel in the town right outside the canyon. The town offered a wide variety of hotels if you are looking at staying in a certain budget. The weather was decent, I was able to wear sneakers, shorts, and a light jacket. If you drove, you are able to drive up to the park and pay for parking. Traffic was not the best and paying for parking seemed useless when they had a shuttle. The shuttle service was not free but it was very inexpensive and a single price covered everyone in your group.
Once at the Grand Canyon, we spent about 3 hours walking around and taking pictures. The sites were amazing and best of all, we caught the sunset. The sun setting on the canyon illuminated the rocks even more. We did not walk down to explore any of the canyon, only the rim. I would recommend everyone to spend more than one day there so they can have more time to explore the canyon and absorb its full glory.
